My One and Only, starring Renee Zellweger in a story based on the childhood experiences of actor George Hamilton, is set to begin filming throughout the Baltimore area on Monday. Filming sites will include locations in Baltimore city and county.
Producer Aaron Ryder (Memento) says all but a few days of the film’s scheduled 38-day shoot will take place in the Baltimore area. Although “not one frame” of the film is actually set in Baltimore, he said, the area’s ability to stand-in for just about any other area of the country makes it perfect for My One and Only, which includes scenes set in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
After leaving Baltimore, the cast and crew will spend a few days in New Mexico, shooting scenes set there and in California.
Shooting in Baltimore, Ryder said yesterday, is proving “the best move we ever made.” He praised the efforts of the Maryland Film Commission, headed by Hannah Byron and Jack Gerbes, in helping to scout locations, round up the necessary crew and make life in Charm City as pleasant as possible. He also praised the state’s economic incentives program, a series of tax credits and rebates he said were key in bringing the film here.
My One and Only, he noted, negotiated a waiver with the Screen Actors Guild, so that filming will continue even if the guild should vote to go on strike later this month. The threatened strike, however, is affecting the film in other ways: So many films are being made right now, with studios anxious to get as much work done as possible before a strike, that actors are in short supply.

Some movie and television stars are in the Baltimore region for a movie being filmed in Carroll County.
The shooting is expected to last eight weeks. The movie, “My One and Only,” is being filmed at a privately owned estate. It stars Renee Zellweger, Steven Weber and “Sex and the CityÂ?s” Chris Noth.
The comedy is set in and is based on actor George Hamilton’s childhood. Zellweger stars as Hamilton’s divorced mother, who travels along the East Coast in search of a wealthy man to finance her lavish lifestyle and be a father to her boys.
The movie is being directed by actor Richard Loncraine, who won an Emmy for his work on HBO’s “Band of Brothers” series.

Now we’re sure it’s Zellweger in the city
First official Renee Zellweger sighting: Monday, outside Sassanova, a Harbor East shoe shop that had its grand opening that very morning.
Zellweger is in town to film My One and Only.
Co-owner Marion Warner noticed a woman in Spandex leggings, loose T-shirt and dark shades lingering outside.
“She was really, really skinny. So skinny that it was, like, ‘Is this a celebrity?’ I mean, she looked minuscule.”
Ogling the Guiseppe Zanottis? Or just waiting for the store to empty so she could shoe shop without fear of being recognized?
Probably the latter. Zellweger seemed to get scared off when some woman - probably all juiced up from Sex and the City - ran inside, cutting right in front of the star.
Somebody’s keen for no-frills espresso
Second official Zellweger sighting: Inside the Starbucks around the corner from Sassanova, minutes later Monday morning.
Double espresso, no lid. And latte, no foam.
One was for Zellweger, the other for an unidentified woman with her. Team Starbucks thinks Zellweger had the espresso, since it was she who gave the lid back to barista Arturo Ozaeta. Don’t look for the lid on eBay, since Ozaeta told staffers he’s keeping it.
Barista Sarah Pfeil was impressed with Zellweger’s lid-shunning because espresso should be downed within seconds. Seems to know her Joe.

The big screen just got Bigger.
Whether or not Chris Noth’s alter ego carries on, so to speak, in Sex and the City: The Movie remains to be seen, but the star has already signed on to romance another leading lady on the silver screen.
According to Variety, the actor will appear opposite Renée Zellweger in My One and Only, a romantic comedy based on a childhood experience lived by the tanned one himself, George Hamilton.
Zellweger plays a glamorous drifter who travels from city to city, seeking out a sugar daddy to fund a life for her and her sons. Enter Noth, who plays a wealthy retired military medico.
Sounds like the doctor is in.
